Gerson loved making ice cream so much that in 2010, she opened La Newyorkina, an ice cream and paleta shop in New York City that drew on her expertise and passion for Mexican sweets and pastries, and later wrote a cookbook called Mexican Ice Cream with all of her tips and tricks.

Their matching pink aprons flowing, the pair had just 30 minutes to make their cake batter, filling and frosting "oven ready." Their every move was being judged for the "Create a Family Baking Legacy" food competition at the Iowa State Fair. (They were also judged on the taste of their finished cake, which they brought already frosted and topped with a bright red rose.)

Des Moines, Iowa resident Eileen Gannon beat out five other competitors with her pumpkin pie-spiced, bacon-flavored coffee at a contest held in New York last week, where her creation was lauded as the most "imaginative drink in America."

An outrageous food concoction served at the Iowa State Fair is coming to your local coffeehouse. The final round of the Seattle's Best "Red Cup Showdown" took place at the fair, where the winner, Eileen Gannon, laid down the gauntlet with her bacon-inspired java. Gannon's winning recipe — which combined Seattle's Best Level 5 coffee with caramelized bacon and hints of pumpkin pie spice — wowed the judges. In addition to scoring the $10,000 prize money, Gannon will see her drink served at Seattle's Best locations across the country.
